The hat block is probably the most important tool of millinery and hat making. The blocks on display are from the 1920s through the 1950s. The blocks are rare because a lot of hat makers burned their blocks at the end of a season so that competitors couldn’t get them and copy the designs. Several TV shows and Hollywood movies were filmed in Petersburg, and Ignatius Hats worked on many of these productions, creating the headwear and millinery worn on screen. In this curated exhibition, you will see the tools, supplies, and materials used by Ignatius Hats during the Petersburg Years. This exhibit focuses on the beautiful and rare antique hat blocks that Ignatius Hats collected.
Not only is this a unique opportunity that all hat blocks will be available for sale, but you’ll be able to take the purchased block with you at the time of the sale.
Beer and wine sales will be offered during this special event.
