The Articles of Conversation – Battersea Lecture

January 11, 2026
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
1289 Upper Appomattox St.
Petersburg VA 23803
Our first lecture, John Banister’s Correspondence with the Founding Fathers, will be given by our very own Historical Researcher, Mr. Davis Simmons, and Battersea President, Mr. Sandy Graham, as they explore the relationships between Col. John Banister, Battersea’s first owner, and the Founding Fathers.
Using letters and primary sources from George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Patrick Henry, this talk sheds light on Banister’s role in 18th-century America and his connections to some of the nation’s most influential figures.
Admission is free, but advance RSVP is required due to limited seating. Please reserve your spot by visiting the Calendar of Events on our website (https://www.batterseafound.org/)
This lecture is the first of four as we kick off Battersea’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
