South Side Depot is Virginia’s oldest surviving railroad station and also serves as a living gallery for local and regional artists.

Built in 1854, South Side Depot served as a vital rail hub and Civil War supply lifeline. It survived an F4 tornado in 1993 and served as a backdrop for films and series including Lincoln, Ithaca, Turn, and Point of Honor.
South Side Depot is Petersburg’s official Visitor Center — the perfect starting point for exploring the city’s history, heritage, and culture.

The Depot is also a gallery space celebrating local and regional artists through rotating exhibitions. Every visit offers something new, where the spirit of Petersburg’s past meets the creativity of its present.
