Visit the historic South Side Depot, home of the Petersburg Visitor Center, to experience an exhibition featuring the work of Thomas Bradshaw, a Richmond-based plein air painter known for expressive landscapes and his study of natural light.
Bradshaw’s passion for painting began in childhood while watching his grandmother create still-life compositions in her basement studio. After earning a degree in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Atlanta, he moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where the dramatic landscapes of the Tetons helped shape his artistic direction and passion for painting outdoors.
Working with both brush and palette knife, Bradshaw uses a loose, expressive approach that emphasizes atmosphere, texture, light, and form rather than precise detail. His work ranges from the rugged landscapes of the American West to the Virginia countryside, reflecting his connection to the natural world and the changing qualities of light.

The Visitor Center is open Wednesday – Sunday, 10 am – 4 pm.
